Wanda Lenora Spicer, 93 of Galatia, IL passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Brookstone Estates in Harrisburg with her family by her side. Wanda was born on February 21, 1930, in Saline County to the late Hobart and Nora (Shepard) Smith.
Wanda lived in Galatia most of her life and was a member of Galatia First Baptist Church in Galatia. Wanda loved helping and being involved with the town. From helping with the Lions Club and Historical Society to helping the Village at the park at Halloween cooking and serving chili. Wanda spent 18 plus years as a cook at the Galatia schools before retiring around 1996. After retiring she loved sitting with the elderly. Wanda loved gardening, music, dancing and her grand dogs. Wanda was a wonderful mother who was loved very much and will be missed dearly.
Wanda is survived by her 3 children, Linda (Hall) Clarida, Lori (Hall) Murphy, Tracy Spicer; one sister, Leona Harris; 6 grandchildren, Shawn Clarida, Jamey (Kristie) Clarida, Tyler (Alexa) Murphy, Angie Hall, Adam Hall, Ashley Hall; 8 great grandchildren, Kayli Clarida, Isabelle Clarida, Ian Clarida, Brianna Hayes, Michael Hall, Genesis Hall, Camden Clymer, Jordan (Hayden) Bennet; 2 great great grandchildren Anson and Taytum Hall along with several nieces and nephews.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Hobart and Nora (Shepard) Smith; 1 son, Larry "Shorty" Hall; 1 brother Clifford Smith; 1 son-in-law Jerry Murphy and 1 nephew, David Smith.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Sloan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 19, 2024, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia at 11:00 am with visitation from 10:00 am until funeral hour. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery in Galatia with Rev. Kevin Peyton officiating. Sloan Funeral Home of Galatia in charge of arrangements.
