Samuel Ferrell Pemberton,72, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 16, 2024, in Franklin Tennessee. Sam was born on October 13, 1951, at his namesake, Ferrell hospital in Eldorado, IL to the late John A. Pemberton and Hallie (Garner) Pemberton.
He had his upbringing in Galatia, IL. He married Sandy (Pittman) Pemberton on June 9, 1973. They shared 50 wonderful and blessed years together. They have one daughter, Stacie Renea Pemberton, who married Harry Lee Crisp III and blessed Sam with his grandchildren, Laura Hallie, Harry Lee Crisp IV, and Isaiah Lee. He graduated from Galatia High School in 1969. One of his fondest memories was playing basketball for the Galatia Bearcats. He went on to graduate from SIC with a degree in Forestry and Nursing. He was a former Licensed Practical Nurse before becoming an underground coal miner. He retired from Peabody Coal in 2011 as Surface Safety Director. Sam and Sandy moved to Franklin, Tennessee in 2020 to be closer to their daughter and her family. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sports and performances throughout these years. You could catch him sporting merchandise from Belmont (Hallie’s university), Vanderbilt (Harry’s university), and Christ Presbyterian Academy (Isaiah’s school) often. Sam could also be found watching Kentucky Basketball in the Winter and St. Louis Cardinals in the Summer. He loved his family and God. He was a member of Galatia First Baptist Church. He volunteered his time helping the church and later his neighbors in Tennessee. He served on the HOA board in his community and enjoyed improving the neighborhood through various handyman projects and landscaping.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; 1 daughter Stacie (Lee) Crisp; 3 grandchildren Hallie, Harry IV, Isaiah and a sister Judy (Pemberton) Weedman who currently resides in Newburgh IN.
