Robert "Big Bob" Edward Anderson

Robert Edward "Big Bob" Anderson, 69, of Galatia, Illinois, formerly of Hardin County, Illinois, passed away on December 12, 2024, at 5:47 PM at IU Health University Hospital, in Indianapolis, Indiana with his daughter and son-in-law by his side.

Bob was born in Shetlerville, Illinois on October 25,1955, the son of the late Clarence "Doc" Anderson and Doris Lucille (Smock) Anderson. Bob was welcomed into the family by an older brother, William "Bill" Anderson, an older sister, Betty Anderson, and a young aunt, Shirley Smock.

 Bob married DuWanna Duffee on January 12, 1980, and to this union, one child, Felicia Lynn Anderson was born. Bob worked for IYC Harrisburg, from where he retired in 2011. Many called him "Big Bob". Bob was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed going to countless games, including many World Series games. Bob also enjoyed attending all the local sporting events. He loved his Galatia Bearcats! He was there to not only cheer on his grandkids, but all kids. He was called "Papa Bob" by many who loved him. His grandkids were the joy of his life. He loved spending time with them and being their biggest fan. Bob was the most selfless man. He found joy in helping and doing for others. He was a true caregiver and never asked, nor expected anything in return. Bob accepted Christ as his Savior, and he loved witnessing to people about Jesus.

Bob is survived by one daughter, Felicia (Kyle) Mortag of Galatia; two grandchildren, Lucy Mortag and Nolan Mortag, both of whom he loved very much. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Anderson Monroe; an uncle, Leonard (Tamara) Smock, an aunt, Essie Anderson, several cousins, extended family and many close friends.

Bob was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Bill, grandparents: Virgil and Tena Anderson, Richard and Bertha (Vanbaber) Smock, and Maude Smock; and his special aunt Shirley.

Funeral services for Robert "Big Bob" Anderson will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. Services will be officiated by Pastor Blake Clayton and Fred Birch with burial following in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golconda, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Sloan Funeral Home of Galatia in charge of arrangements.
