Oral Dale Smiley, age 88, of Thompsonville, Illinois, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.
Dale was born May 20, 1935 in Thompsonville, Illinois, a son of Oral Dick Smiley and Nellie Smith Smiley. He married Eileen O’Neal Smiley, in 1957 in Harrisburg, IL. She preceded him in death in June of 2022. Dale worked as a coal miner and was the owner and operator of Smiley Excavating until his retirement. Dale loved the farm life as well as racing cars and motorcycles.
He is survived by seven children- Jack Dale Smiley, Kathy Newton, Amanda Dianne Smiley-McCoy, Gwen and husband, Steve Bolte, Jeff Smiley, Donna (Smiley) McCarty, and Leann Ann Pedigo; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his three children; two son’s, James O. Smiley, and Darrell Wayne Smiley, and a daughter, Marla Sue Smiley (Frasier); his parents, Dick and Nellie Smiley, four siblings; Katherine Jane Smiley, Anna Mary Smiley, Mildred Wooten Ruiz, and Gene Wooten and two grandchildren, Chasity Grant and Karen Joe Smiley.
The family will hold memorial services on June 10, 2023 at his farm at 12 P.M. located at 12937 Fuller Road Pittsburg, IL.
