Loretta Marie Wood

Loretta Marie Wood 49 of Galatia, Illinois passed away Friday, September 20, 2024, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital. Loretta was born on January 22, 1975 in Peoria, Illinois to LaDawn Wood.

Loretta loved life to the fullest. Flowers made her happy and she enjoyed gardening. Loretta was a fantastic cook and baker. It has been said that nobody will ever make a Pecan Pie like she did. Some of her other loves included music, fashion, history and she enjoyed bible studies at home. Loretta loved her kids and grandkids and all of those she considered her "kids" through the years. 

Loretta is survived by her mother, LaDawn Wood; three children, Brittany Dawn Wood of Bonne Terre, MO, Trystyn Lynyrd Skynyrd McCormick of Galatia, IL, Morgan Marie McCormick of Galatia, IL; four siblings, Travis (Alicia) Brooks of Galatia, IL, Justin "Woody" (Kayla) Wood of Galatia, IL, Nathan Brooks of Galatia, IL, Hershel English of Galatia; siblings on her fathers side, Marcy, Heather, Dallas Walker all of Golconda; five grandkids, Charley Weber, Braxtyn Burgess, Waylon Burgess, Colson Burgess, Bonnie Burgess; nieces and nephews, Caleb, Jordan, Kaden, Xander, Jacob, Lucas, Mariella, Isabella, Stella, Travis ( Little T.), Juliette, Kamdyn, Bradyn, Emery Jo, Daymn; Aunt Loretta ( Uncle Jim), Clint, Earl, Tasha, Jimmy, Daniel, Jerry and many other loving family members. 

Loretta was preceded in death by Grandparents, Marion Thomas (Bonnie Mae) Wood; Great-Grandma, Ethel Wood, Uncle Jerry Walker and unborn twin to her daughter Brittany, Sebastion. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia at 1:00 P.M. with visitation from 11:00 A.M. until funeral hour with Pastor Lloyd Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow at Golconda Oddfellows Cemetery in Golconda. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sloan Funeral Home to help with funeral and burial expenses. Sloan Funeral Home of Galatia in charge of arrangements.
