Lloyd Lavern Vaughn, Jr. 97, of Thompsonville, IL died on Saturday, December 7, at 11:55 a.m. at the Stonebridge Nursing Facility in Benton, IL. Lloyd was born in Franklin County, IL on February 18, 1927, the son of the late Lloyd Vaugh, Sr. and Ruby (Serles) Vaughn.
He married his wife, Hazel on March 23, 1948. His family was his pride and joy. He loved to garden, be outside and spend time with his family. He was a 42 year cancer survivor. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Illinois Central Railroad and Amax Coal Company until his retirement.
Lloyd is survived by one daughter, Carol (Delbert) Kern of Thompsonville; one son, Bruce (Marsha) Vaughn of Thompsonville; three grandsons, Travis (Ashely) Kern of Thompsonville, Beau (Britny) Vaughn of West Frankfort and Miles (Brandi) Vaughn of Thompsonville; great-grandchildren Nathaniel James Kern, Katherine Marie Kern, Emma Olivia Vaughn, Elijah Lloyd Vaughn and Mackenzie Partain. Lloyd is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sharon Vaughn; brother-in-law Gene Norris and many special nieces and nephews.
Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Hazel, a twin sister, Mae Sullivan, sister, Jane Norris, a brother, Charles Vaughn and an infant sister.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10,2024 from 5:00- 8:00 P.M. at Sloan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia at 2:00 P.M. with a visitation from 8:00 A.M. until funeral hour. Burial will follow follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thompsonville with Rev. David Schlag officiating with Military Rites by the Navy Honor Guard and the Thompsonville American Legion #1194. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Thompsonville American Legion #1194 or the American Cancer Society. Sloan Funeral Home of Galatia in charge of arrangements.
