James Gomez Baumgart

May 13, 1964 — January 21, 2025

Galatia

James Gomez Baumgart aged 60 years, a great and beloved husband, son, father, and trucker who went by “Taco”, left us unexpectedly on January 21, 2025 at 9:26 am at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Jimmy was born on May 13, 1964, in Mexico while his mother was vacationing visiting family one last time before birth. He was a resident of Texas for 27 years.

A man whose whole heart was for his wife became full of kindness, generosity, strength and an unwavering love for his family.

He and Linda met through a shared career at Henderson trucking company, often spending endless miles on the road talking, laughing, and getting to know one another. What began as a friendship quickly blossomed into a deep love, and he soon found not only a partner for life, but a family he cherished and adored.

Jimmy filled any room he walked into with laughter, and warmth. He never failed to wrap us in his embrace, with a kiss on the cheek and endearingly calling us “Sweetie”. He had an exceptional ability to make anyone feel welcome and at home, treating everyone as family.

Generosity was at the heart of his wife, and so it became who he was as well.

Jimmy helped those in need, offered assistance with no questions asked, and opened his home to the homeless. Whether it was providing a meal, or place to stay, he was always there for those in their time in need. His acts of love and charity extended far beyond family, and he leaves behind countless lives touched.

Jimmy will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Rose Baumgart, his mother Natividad Baumgart, his children: Lynda-Kaye Wright (Larry Wright), Tammy Lee Shamblin (Phillip Weiss), and Tammy Nicole Roberts. His grandchildren: Melissa Marie Gurley, David Skyler Leavell (Lauren Smock), Ashley Caitlyn Wellen (Nick Wellen), Brianna Nicole Hays, Hunter Braxton Scott (Lisa Scott), August Michael Comer, Jaxon Allen Walker, Grace Rose Marie Roberts, and Noah Steven-Kane Roberts, and his Great Grand children: Summer Nevaeh Gurley, Emma Jane Gurley, Elijah James Wellen, Carter Lucas Wellen, Jenny Alice Beaver, and Naomi Grace Scott.

He is preceded in death by: his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his father Richard I Baumgart.
