Iva Guye, 102, reached her life's dream when on January 11, 2024, she closed her eyes on this Earth to open them next to her husband (Fletcher Guye) in paradise, along with her Savior, Jesus Christ. For many years she has spent her time teaching Sunday school classes along with Bible School with the young children of her church. Later, when teaching became more than her age could handle, she became the cookie baker for many bible school classes. Many of us older adults can say we have tried one of Mrs. Guye's cookies.
Iva was the eldest of Raymond and Bessie's 11 children and as you can imagine, she spent many hours changing diapers and babysitting. Four of those younger siblings still remain:
Nadine (Ed) Selvidge, Fern (Wendell) Harris, Veta (Kenneth) Lampert, Linda (Charlie) Hopson.
Other siblings including Henry (Emily) Anderson, Leo (Helen) Anderson, Edsel (Flowrence) Anderson, Anna Mae (Williard) Seidel, Helen (Marion) Nehbur and Mary Anderson left this world ahead of Iva.
Her children Loretta (Bob) Bugger and Richard (Trese) Guye will always be proud of the legacy, both Fletcher of Iva left behind and she will always be remembered as a hard-working Christian lady who set an example for others and prayed for us all.
During farming season, you could always find her sitting on a tractor or cutting weeds and when lunchtime came, she would bring out a feast that most people are lucky to see on a Sunday afternoon.
The pride of Fletch and Iva has been their grandkids Erica (AJ) Gonzalez, Kris (Genae) Guye, Danel (Jennifer) Scheffer and great grandkids Baily, Madison, Katelynn, Jackson, Morgan and the youngest, Kade.
The only thing left to say is, "Jesus you better get a bigger belt because this little lady makes the absolute best coconut pie that Heaven has ever seen".
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 15, 2024, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia at 12:00 pm with visitation from 10:00 am until funeral hour. Burial willl follow in Ebenezar Cemetery in Galatia with Rev. Jeff Rush officiating. Sloan Funeral Home of Galatia in charge of arrangements.
