Doris Ann Hearring, 81, of Flora, IL, formerly of Galatia, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. Doris was born on July 18, 1943, in Joliet, IL, to the late Eugene and Marie (Williams) Wallace of Galatia.
Doris Ann married Jerry Hearring on January 21, 1966. The couple celebrated their 59th year of marriage last month. Ann and Jerry met in Flora during Ann’s first year of teaching at Flora Unit #35 school district. Doris Ann continued to teach in Flora for over 30 years. She began her career teaching Elementary and Jr. High School music. Later, she taught History and English classes at Flora Jr. High School, one year of Kindergarten at Washington Elementary School, and taught 5th grade students at Lincoln Elementary school before her retirement in 1993. After graduating from Galatia Highschool in 1961, Doris Ann earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Eastern Illinois University in 1964. After she began her teaching career, she went on to earn a master’s degree in Elementary Education, also at EIU. Ann had a passion for playing piano and sharing her musical talent with students and her church family. She began playing piano when she was 8 years old. Doris Ann shared her talent in her early years at Galatia Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which she was a member. She later joined Flora First Methodist Church and blessed her church family for many years playing piano and the church organ. Along with her love for piano, Doris Ann also enjoyed singing in the church choir, reading, and had a love of history and genealogy. She was a wonderful and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and teacher.
Doris Ann is survived by her husband, Jerry Hearring of Flora; two children, JoAnn Hearring of Flora, Josh (Casey) Hearring of Evansville; three grandchildren, Caleb Perry, Carson Perry, Jadie Hearring and many cousins, family and friends.
Doris Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Marie (Williams) Wallace.
A private graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Webber Campground Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Peyton and Russell Anderson officiating. In lieu of fowers, donations may be made to Flora First Methodist Major Music Fund or the Galatia Historical Society.
