Carl Dean Mallady, 89 of Harrisburg, IL passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Dean was born on April 5, 1934, in Harco to the late William "Otto" and Ola (Hankins) Mallady.

Dean married Carolyn (Jackson) Mallady on October 10, 1959, and she preceded him in death on April 5, 2023. Dean served from 1954-1958 in the United States Army. Dean is a fourth generation of the Mallady family to serve in the U.S armed forces. His father was a World War 1 veteran and his grandfather and great-grandfather served during the Civil War. Pvt. Mallady received his basic training at Fort Carson and graduated from the Combat Engineering School in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Dean loved racing and building engines. Dean and     his son Rick owned and ran Mallady Machine Shop in Harrisburg since 1980. Starting in 1966, Dean worked for Peabody Coal until retiring in 1993.  Dean loved his underground friends and playing pranks on them. He was nicknamed "Goat" standing for "Greatest of All Time".  Dean was a member and Deacon at North America Baptist Church.  For over 85 years combined Dean and his father have been Caretakers of North America Cemetery. Dean was a loving, funny and honest man to all who knew him.

Dean is survived by, 4 children; David (Debbie) Mallady of Harrisburg, Rick (Susan) Mallady of Harrisburg, Sherry (Joe) Morris of Galatia, Rita (Steve) Diefenbach of Carrier Mills; 7 grandchildren, Misty (Brandon) Stone, Tommy (Keely) Stephens, Caleb (Jillian) Mallady, Kara(Troy) Graham, Joey(Laura) Morris, Jedd Diefenbach, Autumn Diefenbach; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchild; and a special niece, Jamie Moore Jones.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Jackson) Mallady and his parents, "Otto" and Ola (Hankins) Mallady.
 
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 8, 2023, at the North America Church in Harco at 1:00pm with visitation from 10:00am until funeral hour. Burial will follow in North America Cemetery with Rev. Dale Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the North America Cemetery. Sloan Funeral Home of Galatia in charge of arrangements.
